The Philadelphia Phillies and Cuban pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez have reached an agreement on a contract.<\/p>\n

Gonzalez and the Phillies have agreed on a three-year deal worth $12 million. It is quite a pay cut from the six-year $48 million that the two sides had agreed on last month.<\/p>\n

Medical concerns caused the Phillies to back off the initial contract but at an average annual salary of $4 million they feel safe letting the 26-year-old compete for a rotation job next spring.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very pleased to have come to an agreement with Miguel,\u201d Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a team released statement. \u201cHe is someone our scouts have followed for several years and in our most recent observations of him he showed tremendous stuff. We are hopeful he will pitch out of our starting rotation for 2014 and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gonzalez will report to the Phillies Spring Training complex in Clearwater, FL. In order to make room for Gonzalez on the 40-man roster the Phillies transferred John Lanna to the 60-day disabled list.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
