There figures to be plenty of Major League teams interested in Cuban first baseman Jose Abreu once he is declared a free agent.<\/p>\n

Count the Boston Red Sox as one team who has already looked at the 6-foot-3 250 pound hitter.<\/p>\n

The Boston Globe<\/a> quotes a Red Sox source saying the team is “certainly interested” in Abreu. It confirms what many suspected with current first baseman Mike Napoli only signed to the end of this season. The Red Sox also appear to have no in-house option to take over the position.<\/p>\n

Boston will not be the only AL East team after Abreu. MASN is reporting<\/a> that the Orioles have followed him for over a year. In the coming months workouts are expected to be held by Abreu.<\/p>\n

Abreu, 26, batted .360\/.385\/.760 with three home runs and nine RBIs in six games at this year’s World Baseball Classic.<\/p>\n
