First basemen Adam LaRoche has a $10 million mutual option that the club could pick up for 2013 but both parties are said to be looking towards a long-term deal.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know what stage you would say it is,&#8221; LaRoche said. &#8220;There\u2019s nothing definitive. I don\u2019t know if this is something that is a week out or two months out. They\u2019ve laid a little bit of the groundwork to see if it would even work. They\u2019ve made some progress.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>LaRoche played in 154 games for the Nationals in 2012. He batted .271\/.343\/.510 and set a career high with 33 home runs. LaRoche also recorded his second season of 100 RBI.
