{"id":3416,"date":"2013-07-05T14:29:12","date_gmt":"2013-07-05T18:29:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/?p=3416"},"modified":"2013-07-05T14:29:12","modified_gmt":"2013-07-05T18:29:12","slug":"mike-scioscia-yasiel-puig-is-not-an-all-star","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/2013\/07\/05\/mike-scioscia-yasiel-puig-is-not-an-all-star\/","title":{"rendered":"Mike Scioscia: Yasiel Puig is not an All-Star"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_3417\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3417\" style=\"width: 676px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3417\" alt=\"mikescioscia\" src=\"http:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/files\/2013\/07\/mikescioscia.jpg\" width=\"676\" height=\"486\" srcset=\"http:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/files\/2013\/07\/mikescioscia.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/files\/2013\/07\/mikescioscia-300x215.jpg 300w, http:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/files\/2013\/07\/mikescioscia-70x50.jpg 70w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3417\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Jonathan Daniel\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Angels manager Mike Scioscia is the latest to say that Dodgers phenom Yasiel Puig is not yet deserving of an All-Star selection.<\/p>\n<p>While acknowledging the talent of the 22-year-old the former big league cat catcher stated that he believed Puig&#8217;s stint in the majors was not long enough to deserve selection to the mid-summer classic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he needs to go a little farther to earn it,\u201d Scioscia said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he\u2019s not an All-Star this year, he\u2019s going to be an All-Star for years to come,\u201d Scioscia said of Puig. \u201cBut I do think you have to play enough to earn a spot on the All-Star team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think MLB will discount what he\u2019s done, even though it\u2019s a limited number of at-bats,\u201d Scioscia said, <a href=\"http:\/\/tracking.si.com\/2013\/07\/05\/yasiel-puig-mike-scoscia-all-star\/\" target=\"_blank\">via SI.com<\/a>. \u201cThere\u2019s a pull to bring the best players to the game, because of the bearing it has on home-field advantage in the World Series. That\u2019s going to give him a deeper look than maybe it would have been in any other situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The view of Scioscia is no different then the ones previously expressed by Bruce Bochy in mid-June.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would have a hard time picking somebody who has been here three weeks, to be honest. The numbers would have to be so stupid that you say, \u2018Ok I\u2019ll consider it.\u2019 But, you know, I couldn\u2019t take away from a player who has been here and done it the whole half and been out there grinding every day and he doesn\u2019t go. I couldn\u2019t look at that player. I couldn\u2019t look at myself, to be honest. So that\u2019s why I\u2019m saying, that\u2019s a really long shot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Puig has played in 29 of the Dodgers 84 games this season.
