{"id":2421,"date":"2013-05-10T13:16:37","date_gmt":"2013-05-10T17:16:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/?p=2421"},"modified":"2013-05-10T13:16:37","modified_gmt":"2013-05-10T17:16:37","slug":"ozzie-guillen-calls-decision-to-manage-marlins-a-big-mistake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/2013\/05\/10\/ozzie-guillen-calls-decision-to-manage-marlins-a-big-mistake\/","title":{"rendered":"Ozzie Guillen calls decision to manage Marlins a &#8220;big mistake&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1344\" alt=\"ozzieguillen\" src=\"http:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/files\/2013\/02\/ozzieguillen.jpg\" width=\"594\" height=\"406\" srcset=\"http:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/files\/2013\/02\/ozzieguillen.jpg 594w, http:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/files\/2013\/02\/ozzieguillen-300x205.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 594px) 100vw, 594px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ozzie Guillen managed the Miami Marlins last season but after a tumultuous season was let go during the off-season.<\/p>\n<p>The Marlins were hoping to use Guillen as a center of their franchise as they courted the fans of south Florida but the former White Sox manager alienated fans after his comments in support of Fidel Castro and the Marlins failed to perform despite a expanded payroll.<\/p>\n<p>Guillen appeared as a guest with <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/espnradio\/chicago\/play?id=9256204\" target=\"_blank\">Waddle and Silvy on ESPN Chicago<\/a> Radio on Wednesday and classified the move to manage the Marlins as a &#8220;big mistake.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was naive about the situation like everybody out there,\u201d Guillen admitted, saying he went to Miami for the money. \u201cMy dream and my eye was a little deeper than last year, and all of a sudden, \u2018boom\u2019, it got shutdown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Guillen told the program that he has no hard feelings towards the White Sox, for whom he played 13 seasons and managed eight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t have anything against the White Sox. One thing about it is people really (didn\u2019t) understand what the situation was (that led to the departure). Jerry (Reinsdorf) came out and said, \u2018Listen, that\u2019s what it was.\u2019 I want(ed) (a) one more year contract.
