A few hours later he was signed to a minor league contract by the New York Yankees.<\/p>\n<p>Francisco asked for his release from the Indians in order to pursue a better opportunity. That opportunity will be in New York where he should take over as part off the Yankees solution in left field while Curtis Granderson is out.<\/p>\n<p>Getting Francisco to play the outfield is hardly a season saving move by the Yankees but it is an improvement over their current options.<\/p>\n<p>The 31-year-old Francisco spent time with three different teams last season while compiling a .240\/.285\/.385 line in 82 games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Outfielder Ben Francisco was released by the Cleveland Indians on Monday.
