The Atlanta Braves have taken the spot vacated from the trade of closer Craig Kimbrel and given it to minor leaguer Brandon Cunniff.

Cunniff, a right hander, will pitch out of middle relief.

Last season the 26-year-old spent time split between Single-A Lynchburg and Double-A Mississippi compiling a 1.59 ERA across 42 games. He had a 71/27 K/BB ratio.

One player acquired in the Kimbrel trade will not be with the Braves. Outfielder Carlos Quentin has been designated for assignment.

Simply put the 32-year-old did not factor into the Braves plans. He is coming off a season in which he hit .177/.284/.315 in 155 plate appearances last season for the San Diego Padres. He will make $8 million this season and has a buyout worth $3 million on his $10 million salary for next season.

The Braves have also placed left handed pitcher Josh Outman on the 60-day disabled list with a shoulder injury. He will be out for some time after experiencing discomfort in his throwing shoulder. Thus far X-rays and an MRI have given no indication as to exactly what Outman is dealing with.

Nationals release Mike Carp

Days after he failed to make the bench of the Washington Nationals, Mike Carp has been released. Carp rejected a assignment to Triple-A Syracuse and will now attempt to find a new team to take his services to. Odds are that Carp will have to spend a brief stay in the minors regardless of where he lands.

The 28-year-old Carp is coming off a poor 2014 season in which he hit just .175/.289/.230 with 13 RBI across 59 games./. For his career he is a .254/.330/.414 hitter.

The Atlanta Braves have taken the spot vacated from the trade of closer Craig Kimbrel and given it to minor leaguer Brandon Cunniff.
