He will now be placed on the disabled list and be out of action until May.<\/p>\n<p>Signed to a minor league deal earlier this winter, Bedard was hoping to win a spot as a left handed long reliever for the Dodgers.<\/p>\n<p>The 36-year-old Bedard is coming off a season in which he was 4-6 with a 4.76 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP across 75 2\/3 innings of work for the Tampa Bay Rays.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Erik Bedard will miss the start of the season after suffering a strained back muscle in his last start.
