Mets starter Jon Niese only made it to the fourth inning of his start on Thursday night before leaving with shoulder discomfort.
Niese pitched 3 1/3 innings against the Atlanta Braves allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out five. He had been dealing with shoulder tendinitis.
The Mets had been planning to go with a six-man rotation with the arrival of Zack Wheeler but with Niese likely headed to the disabled list those plans will be scrapped.
Including tonight’s game, Niese has made 14 starts this year compiling a 4.32 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP.
