The New York Yankees have acquired outfielder Vernon Wells from the Los Angeles Angels. Wells signed a massive contract with the Angels but has hit just .222 with 33 home runs over the last two seasons. There is $42 million left on the now 34 year old’s contract.
Wells waived his no trade cause which was all that stood in the way of a deal getting done.
The production from Granderson to Wells is a significant drop off but the Yankees are desperate for options to fill out their roster.
The Yankees will pay $13 million to Wells over the next two seasons, which means the Angels will pay $29 million for a player not on their team.
