The Red Sox will take a flier on pitcher Alexi Ogando.

Ogando, 31, pitched just 25 innings last season for the Rangers finishing with a 6.84 ERA and a 1.92 WHIP. The right hander had been holding out for a guaranteed contract and gets one from the Red Sox worth $1.5 million for the 2015 season. He can earn an additional $1.5 million in incentives.

The Red Sox are could be targeting Ogando to fill out one of the spots in their bullpen. For his career Ogando owns a 3.36 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP while serving as both a starter and a reliever.

To make room for Ogando on their roster the Red Sox designated Drake Britton for assignment.

The 25-year-old Britton appeared in seven games for the Red Sox last season tossing 6 2/3 scoreless innings. He should find plenty of oppurtunities to pitch in 2015.
