The Reds have added right hander Jason Marquis to a minor league contract inviting the veteran to spring training.
Marquis, 36, spent last season at Triple-A and last saw major league action in 2013 posting a 4.05 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, and 72/68 K/BB ratio in 117 2/3 innings with the Padres.
It has been years since Marquis has been a reliable major leaguer but the Reds can do no harm in using him as organizational depth.
Braves sign Kelly Johnson
The Braves have signed infielder Kelly Johnson to a minor league deal.
Johnson will also receive an invitation to spring training.
A year ago Johnson hit just .215/.296/.362 in 106 games last season between the Yankees, Red Sox, and Orioles.
The biggest asset Johnson offers is his versatility. The Braves have entered a rebuilding phase and can use Johnson’s ability to play across the diamond. He returns to the Braves who drafted him 38th overall back in 2008.
