The St. Louis Cardinals will start Tyler Lyons in Monday’s game against the New York Mets.

Lyons will assume the rotation spot of injured pitcher Joe Kelly who has landed on the disabled list following a hamstring injury.

Currently the Cardinals do not envision Kelly missing a significant amount of time and have opted to allow Lyons to get a few starts rather than move Carlos Martinez from the bullpen only to send him back when Kelly returns. Should Kelly’s injury prove to linger then the Cardinals may choose to move Martinez into their rotation.

Lyons has a 3.32 ERA with 18 strikeouts over his first 19 Triple-A innings this season.
