A difficult spring continues for the Rangers who will already start the season without Derek Holland who was lost to a knee injury and second baseman Jurickson Proar who suferd a torn right shoulder muscle. The status of starter Yu Darvish’s neck is also a concern for the Rangers.
Currently the Rangers have J.P. Arencibia and Robinson Chirinos on their roster as options at catcher. Arencibia was expected to begin the season as a backup.
Soto appeared in 54 games last season hitting .245/.328/.466 with nine home runs and 22 RBI. Last seasons primary catcher A.J. Pierzynski signed with Boston in the offseason.
