The New York Yankees placed short stop Derek Jeter on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 12. Jeter suffered a right quad strain on his first game back last week when he played against the Kansas City Royals and had been day to day since.

The Yankees confirmed the move on their Twitter.

Jeter had not played in a major league game all season up until his debut last week, after suffering an ankle fracture during the playoffs last October.

Jeter will be eligible to return July 27th against the Tampa Bay Rays, though its not clear if he will be ready at that time.
