The Atlanta Braves have placed Evan Gattis on the disabled list.

Gattis is listed as having a strained oblique. It is unknown when the injury occurred but strained oblique’s typically require an extended period of rest.

With Gattis out, Gerald Laird will function as the Braces catcher behind Brian McCann. Travis Pastornicky has been recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to take Gattis’ roster spot. In two brief stints with the Braves Pastornicky is 1-for-7. He will serve as infield depth.

Prior to going on the disabled list the 26-year-old Gattis was hitting .252 with 14 home runs and 37 RBI in 53 games. He played catcher in Monday night’s game against the Mets going 0-for-3 with a strikeout.
