Mike Mussina always came across as a smart guy who would one day be a coach. Its not baseball though that Mussina will be coaching. The former major league pitcher will coach basketball at his former high school in Montoursville, PA.

As the story goes Mussina was once a prolific high school hoops star before he became one of the best on the mound. Mussina scored 1,382 points before graduating in 1987 according to the Sun Gazzete.

The now 44-year-old Mussina retired after the 2008 season. He won 270 games over 18 years while pitching for the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees. In his last start Mussina finally recorded a 20 win season in 2008, after five seasons of 18 or more.

A five time All-Star, Mussina will appear on the next ballot for Cooperstown but is not a sure thing with Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, and Frank Thomas among others seeking enshrinement.

Mussina will make a mere $4,170 for his services as the schools basketball coach. Chump change for a guy who made over $145 million during his baseball playing days.
