Brandon Beachy to make rehab start on Sunday

Brandon Beachy will attempt to throw three innings or 45 pitches on Sunday when he starts for Triple-A Gwinnett. Beachy is working his way back from Tommy John surgery in 2012.

On Tuesday the 26-year-old threw two innings in an extended spring training game. After Sunday’s start Beachy will be expected to make another five or six minor league starts before returning to the Braves rotation.

Beachy is throwing in the low-90s which is typical for him but he does have concern about his ability to hit his spots.

“Once it comes time to pitch in games that matter (velocity) is not going to determine whether I can get guys out or not,” Beachy told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “(It’s) being able to throw fastballs to get in favorable counts and then throwing breaking balls that are effective.”
