Boston pitcher John Lackey left Saturday’s game against Toronto with an injury to his left arm. Lackey was pitching in the fifth inning when he was removed from the game.

Currently it is unclear the extent of the injury to Lackey. The 34-year-old Lackey missed the entire 2012 season after having Tommy John surgery. He was replaced by Alfredo Aceves in Saturday’s game.

Ricky Doyle of NESN reports that “Replays show that Lackey actually grabbed at the same area following his previous pitch, so we shall see. In any event, it’s a very unfortunate situation.”

Prior to the injury Lackley had pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing two runs and five hits.

Lackey will undergo an MRI on Sunday morning in Boston.
