Freddy Garcia will get a chance to continue his big-league career. The right-handed pitcher signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres on Monday.
Garcia, 36, played for the New York Yankees last season compiling a 5.20 ERA in 30 appearances including 17 starts.
The Padres will give Garcia a chance to make their rotation in spring training. While Garcia struggled last season, he was successful in 2011 finishing with a 12-6 record and a 3.62 ERA in 146 2/3 innings.
