Braves turn sights to signing B.J. Upton

At one point the Atlanta Braves had hopes of signing both Torii Hunter and B.J. Upton. With Hunter signing a two year deal with the Detroit Tigers, the Braves are turning their sights solely to Upton.

The Braves have two spots to fill in the outfield thanks to Michael Bourn becoming a free agency and the move of Martin Prado to third base.

Upton hit .246/.298/.454 last season. He stole 31 bases, his fifth straight season topping 30.

Despite his usual makeup for the role the Braves would likely use Upton as their leadoff hitter. Upton would provide good defense and power from the center field position but the Braves are not alone in seeking his service. Philadelphia and Texas are two other teams seeking Upton.

Upton began playing at the major league level in 2004.
