Ben Roethlisberger is that stupid, admits sexual contact

Posted by John On March - 10 - 2010

I know I’m Miami Dolphins Vs Pittsburgh Steelers in Miaminot an expert on all things football but I’ll just go ahead and say that Ben Roethlisberger is stupid. A while back he was the target of a sexual assault charge and apparently he hasn’t changed.

Maybe it’s from the lack of his helmet while riding a motorcycle.

Looks like Roethlisberger has admitted to having some sort of sexual contact with his accuser but says it wasn’t intercourse. Apparently the woman is one of the worst blowjob givers in the world as according to Roethlisberger she manged to slip, fall and injure her head in the process.

Give me a break already.

The fact is Ben Roethlisberger is as dangerous to the image of the NFL as Michael Vick’s buried dogs. He’s a loaded gun…ok bad choice of words… ready to attack, assault and maim.

You’d think some of these guys would learn what associating with whores gets you. Look what it got Steve McNair. Dead. Bang!

Which reminds me. Where was any of the outrage that McNair was having an affair?

I guess that’s what being an NFL QB gets you. Frankly, I hope they nail this jerk.

The Miami DolpMiami Dolphins Vs Indianapolis Colts in Miamihins have brought back Chad Pennington on a one year deal worth $2.5 million to serve as the backup/mentor to Chad Henne.

Pennington signed with the Dolphins prior to the start of the 2008 season and led the team to an 11-5 record to lead the AFC East before the team was ousted in the first round of the playoffs.

Pennington started last season as the Dolphins QB but after suffering an injury in the teams third game he missed the remainder of the season following a third shoulder surgery.

With Henne currently the top quarterback on the depth chart the Dolphins have brought back Pennington as an insurance policy. If he were to be traded prior to the trade deadline his contract would escalate by $1.515 million, there are also extra incentives should he be the teams starter.

The resigning of Pennington by Miami is not much of a surprise as he wasn’t considered to be a highly sought after option due to his injury but he does give the Dolphins a familiar and effective face should he be needed.

Colts find out who dat beat them? S-A-I-N-T-S

Posted by John On February - 8 - 2010

News - February 07, 2010The New Orleans Saints won Super Bowl 44.

Despite the Colts doing little to nothing following the first quarter the game remained close but a little boring throughout considering the players on the field.

In the end a on-side kick to start the second half by New Orleans surprised Indianapolis, while a late Peyton Manning interception returned for a touchdown ultimately ended their season.

I suppose congratulations are in order to the Saints but frankly I don’t give a crap about Tom Benson, Jeremy Shockey or the city of New Orleans.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees tied an NFL Super Bowl record with 32 completions on his way to capturing the MVP award.

I know the Saints will eventually return to their home city of New Orleans but they are all probably headed to Disney World first. Hah!

Dwight Freeney is active for Super Bowl XLIV

Posted by John On February - 7 - 2010

After nearly two wSuper Bowl XLIV - AFC Media Dayeeks of speculation the Colts announced that RE Dwight Freeney is active for Super Bowl XLIV.

The news is not very surprising and earlier today it was reported that Freeney was walking around without a limp and wasn’t showing any signs of being in pain.

Frankly I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole story was made up by some combination of ESPN and the Colts front office.

The Colts do have some people who won’t be playing, K Adam Vinatieri, G/C Mike Pollack, DT Fili Moala, OT Michael Toudouze, WR Sam Giguere, TE Colin Cloherty, DE Ervin Baldwin, and DL John Gill are all listed as inactive.

Colts kicker Matt Stover will become the oldest player in Super Bowl history during tonight’s game.

Super Bowl 44 just hours away!

Posted by John On February - 7 - 2010

SupNFC Championship game between New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikingser Bowl 44 is just hours away. Can Peyton Manning lead the Indianapolis Colts to the Lombardi trophy again or will Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints bring the big easy it’s first?

Both teams finished the regular season the best in their conference with the Colts at 14-2 while the Saints were 13-3.

Many “experts” are picking the Colts based on the fact they have Peyton Manning, which overlooks the fact that the Saints have Brees who was voted Offensive player of the year.

I was surprised to hear on the radio that many of the current NFL players are actually picking the Saints to win the game, which may be a knock on the Colts defense.

Most expect there to be plenty of points in this one but I think defense will play a larger role then they expect.

I guess we shall see. For what it’s worth the betting line has gone from 5.5 to 4.5  in the week leading up to the game.

Why has retirement turned into a negotiating tool?

Posted by John On January - 21 - 2010

We’NFL Divisional Playoffs - Arizona Cardinals v New Orleans Saintsve heard many things used as tools to increase or manipulate contracts in professional sports but I’m having a tough time understanding why retirement is among them.

In recent years players have used the threat that they would retire as a reason that teams should pay them more money. Recently it was said that Johnny Damon had told friends he would retire if he couldn’t get an appropriate contract and then yesterday Kurt Warner came out and said that he was thinking of retiring since football was simply not fun anymore.

My thoughts? Fine go away already.

Don’t use the threat of retiring as a negotiating tool. I can’t even understand why threatening to retire has even worked.

Are these athletes foolish enough to think we won’t simply replace them. We can buy other jerseys, hang up new posters and yes we can cheer for a different player occupying your old position.

Don’t tell me how the game isn’t fun and then turn around and sign a huge contract. I suppose it’s not just the players who are at fault here. After all if any of these organizations had the balls to stand up and say here’s the offer take it or retire I seriously doubt we’d be witnessing this still.

If a guy wants to retire then you aren’t bidding against another organization. You’re bidding against his sofa and daytime soaps. Now I know that Hope Brady is still an attractive lady but I don’t think shes got the goods to compete with the desire to still play sports and lets be honest she ain’t going to pay anyone the greenbacks to watch her show.

Instead you are trying to convince the athlete he still wants to pay. So far the only way anyone has been able to do that is with money.

Before I go any further I think we have to understand the difference between using retirement as a tool and saying you are going to retire.

Current Baltimore Raves safety Ed Reed came out and said he was thinking of retiring following the Ravens playoff loss citing nagging injuries. Reed is also not guilty of using retirement as a tool. Reed (like teammate Derrick Mason) has a contract for next season. Reed’s contract actually runs though 2012 with salaries of $6 million, $6.5 million and $7 million. Simply put there is no way Reed would be able to top those numbers with any club even if he was a free agent.

Now for an example of a player trying to milk retirement.

The last time Kurt Warner wanted a contract he wanted two years instead of the one Arizona was offering. Warner, who has blinded people into thinking he doesn’t care about money, threatened to retire leaving Arizona with Matt Leinhart as their starter. In essence Warner was gloating to them ‘pay me or play the reason you brought me here in the first place.’ The result of course was Arizona giving him two years on his deal and now he’ll go out and do the same thing to them this season.

There’s been conflicting reports whether Johnny Damon would actually retire. Not long after it was first reported everyone was pretty much trying to prove otherwise and other acquaintances of Damon have even squashed the rumor. I for one don’t doubt that Damon said it. After all Damon hasn’t found any teams interested in taking him for the $10 million he asked for at the beginning of the winter meetings. He’s still asking for that amount as recently as last week.

Sure there have been others as well.

Astros WorkoutMaybe they all have learned from Roger Clemens who retired as a member of the  New York Yankees in 2003 only to sign with the Houston Astros in January of 2004. Sure that first year he got only $5 million but the $18 million he got in 2005 after threatening to retire was eye popping. Actually Clemens asked for $22 million (as he said to match his uniform number) while the Astros were going to offer $13.5 million in their case for arbitration.

Clemens again said he was retiring following the 2005 season, and surprise surprise he didn’t. After months of everyone expecting him to come back it was announced on May 31 that he was coming back. Clemens’ contract worth $22,000,022 would be prorated netting him $12.25 million for 19 big league starts.

Next year same thing. This time to the Yankees. The deal with the Yankees would be prorated from a total of $28,000,022. Clemens made $18.7 million that season in total despite not pitching in the big leagues until June 9. Clemens finished the year 6-6 with a 4.18 ERA costing the Yankees just over $3.1 million per victory.

It figures to only get worse.

I’ve never known a person outside of sports with the ability to make their employer pay them more with this threat. Actually I’m willing to bet most employers would see this as a easy way to avoid paying you severance and to discontinue your benefits. So why is this option now on the table in the lucrative market of professional sports?

These professional clubs need to put a stop to it. They are the only ones who can.

Cowboys right to bring back Phillips

Posted by John On January - 18 - 2010

Carolina Panthers v Dallas CowboysEd Werder of ESPN is reporting that Wade Phillips will return to the Dallas Cowboys as their head coach in 2010. Phillips guided the team to the NFC East crown and the organizations first playoff victory in 13 years.

Phillips also serves as the Cowboys defensive coordinator. The Cowboys defense finished as the second overall defense in the league this season.

There’s also the rumor being floated around that Phillips will have another season added to his contract.

Had the Cowboys not made the playoffs or had they fell on their face against the Eagles in the first round I’d be saying it’s time for Wade to go. The Cowboys however did win the games they needed to win and prior to a collapse against Minnesota looked like a team that could be poised to go the distance.

I don’t think one loss should change that. Had the Cowboys played bad down the stretch and then had the outing against Minnesota I perhaps would be saying it’s time for Wade to go but you can’t argue with winning no matter who the opponent has been.

Frankly I wouldn’t expect many changes to happen on the Cowboys coaching staff at all.

Same result in the end for Cowboys

Posted by John On January - 18 - 2010

Dallas Cowboys at Minnesota VikingsThe result was the same for Cowboys. After two convincing victories in Dallas against Philadelphia the team traveled to Minnesota and laid down.

The offense could get nothing going and with Tony Romo turning the ball over as fast as he turns over women the game eventually found itself out of hand in the fourth quarter. Romo fumbled the ball three times, recovering one while losing two. The Cowboys running game was hardly on track. While Felix Jones ran for 69 yards on 14 carries, Marion Barber went no where collecting just 14 on 8 attempts.

The simplest but true reason for the Cowboys defeat is that the offensive line could not stop the Vikings from wrecking havoc in the backfield and the aforementioned players had little time to make any plays happen.

Here’s a kicker. Shawn Suisham missed two kicks in the game. Again something must be down at the kicking position.

There was the usual excitement around the Cowboys in this game. They were playing good football and had finally won a post season game. However perhaps we over looked the teams they had beaten.

Dallas beat New Orleans, correct. But after that they thumped Washington and Philadelphia. Washington that had already made it know they were looking for a new head coach about 10 weeks earlier and Philadelphia featured a secondary that had more duck-tape on it then the shelf at your local hardware store.

Last week’s playoff win again came at the hand of the Eagles.

Late in the year there were questions to whether the Cowboys would even make the playoffs. With aid for the New York Giants laying down and the Eagles having no defense to speak of they not only made the playoffs but won their division.

In the end they finished with 11 regular season wins, 5 losses. (New York Giants twice,Denver, Green Bay San Diego) They finally won a post season game, but looked over-matched the following week in a loss.

A lot is being made of a late Vikings touchdown on a fourth and three play that extended their lead to 31 late in the fourth quarter but what everyone should be looking at is all the plays that led to the Vikings having a 24 point lead. Much of which had to do with lack of execution on the Cowboys part.

Despite being a Cowboys fan I watched little of the second half. I was already convinced by what I had seen in the first half that this team was sunk. I didn’t need Troy Aikman and Joe Buck to remind me this was the playoffs and I had no desire to watch Brett Favre strut around with a goofy fisherman’s had on.

A disappointing end for the Cowboys but one we should have expected. Minnesota is simply a better team and the Cowboys did themselves no favors in this one to disprove that.
