The husband of the victim in a fatal crash that occured when former NBA player Mookie Blaylock failed to keep control of his vehicle has spoken out.

Blaylock crossed over the median going north on Route 19/41 south of Atlanta. The Cadillac Escalade of Blalock hit a vehicle driven by Frankie Murphy.

“Oh, no, oh no,” Murphy said he shouted, via USA Today, before a head on collision that killed his wife.

Blaylock was charged with second degree vehicular homicide, failure to maintain his lane and driving on a suspended license on Monday. Jonesboro Police Chief Franklin Allen said Blaylock had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in Spalding County on a DUI charge and also had his license suspended.

Thus far toxicology reports from Blaylock’s blood test at the hospital have not been released. Those results do not matter to Frankie Murphy whose wife Monica died as a result of Blaylock being behind the wheel.

“He was driving on a suspended license. He shouldn’t have been driving at all,” Murphy said. “If he hadn’t been driving, my wife would still be here.”

Monica Murphy went into cardiac arrest four times and died at the Atlanta Medical Center on Friday night. The couple had five children whose ages ranged from 5 to 17.
