Byron sees boost in title odds after win at Homestead

Michael McDowell, Christopher Bell and most recently William Byron have gone to victory lane to start the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season. It is the latter who is gaining momentum among bettors.

After winning the Dixie Vodka 400, Chevrolet’s William Byron odds improve to have shortened from +4400 to +1900 to win the NASCAR Cup Series

Just 23 years of age, Byron now has the 10th best odds but ironically is just third among his Hendrick Racing teammates behind overall favorite Chase Elliott +550 and Kyle Larson +1200.

In his fourth full season at the Cup level, Byron is looking to improve upon a best finish of 11th in the standings which was set back in his sophomore season of 2019.

“It was just a really smooth day,” Byron said after winning last weekend. “We worked hard in the winter on this track. I can’t believe it.”

The win was the first for crew chief Rudy Fugle in the Cup Series. Byron and Fugle were teamed together in 2016 in the Camping World Truck Series which ended with a win at Homestead in the season finale. The duo scored seven wins that season finishing fifth in the series points for Kyle Busch Motorsports.

Byron’s task this weekend will be to improve upon his 22.3 average finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Despite finishing on the lead lap in each of his last four trips to the 1.5-mile track Byron has scored just a best finish of 7th with a 16th, 22nd, and 25th weighing him down. He has led 39 laps during that span but that stat is broadline meaningless when you consider Daniel Suarez led 29 laps in the fall race in 2019.
