Even a huge contract signed last winter may not be enough to put pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez back in the Baltimore Orioles starting rotation reports the Baltimore Sun.

Jimenez sprained his right ankle over a month ago and has been slow to heal. With the recent success of the Orioles rotation manager Buck Showalter is hesitant to move anyone around meaning that Jimenez could be tabbed for long relief duty for the time being.

The Orioles signed Jimenez to a four-year deal worth $50 million in February. Though 18 starts with the Orioles he owns a 3-8 record to go with a 4.52 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. He last pitched on July 5.

Of course it is just as likely that the Orioles end up starting Jimenez on Friday. Stay tuned.
