The Washington Nationals have promoted general manager Mike Rizzo to the role of president of baseball operations. Rizzo has also been given a new long-term extension.
It has been common practice for team to promote an existing general manager to the role of team president or give a general manager that role in order to add/keep other highly desired personnel (Braves, White Sox, Cubs) but Rizzo will also keep the general manager title.

Rizzo has assembled one of baseball’s more talented rosters which was evident by the Nationals MLB high 98 wins last season. This year the Nationals are under .500 but all signs point to them being competitive in the NL East in the coming seasons.
