In a surprise statement from the teams general manager, Regan Smith’s contract with Furniture Row Racing will be honored in full. Smith has driven for the Denver based team for four seasons. Kurt Busch will drive the No. 78 car next season.
Busch will began driving for Furniture Row Racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Busch will drive the No. 1 of Phoenix Racing at Dover and at Talladega.
What ‘fully honored’ means in regards to Smith’s contract remains to be seen. On Thursday the driver told Race Hub on Speed that he was looking at his options and would consider a competitive Nationwide team.
Smith has also been linked to the No. 1 car of Phoenix Racing, where he would replace Busch. It remains to be seen if Phoenix Racing will field a car in 2013. Team owner James Finch has said that changes to the car for next season may make it impossible for him to field a team.
