Bill Belichick fined $50,000 for contact with referee

The NFL has fined Bill Bellichick $50,000 for his contact with a referee following Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Following the 27-yard game winning field goal by Raven kicker Justin Tucker, Belichick grabbed and confronted an official.

NFL executive vice president of football operations Ray Anderson says that the fine was for impermissible physical contact with an official.  Meanwhile Ravens coach John Harbaugh, who wasn’t fined for his unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for bumping an official when he was trying to get his attention to call a timeout, didn’t violate a rule prohibiting abuse of game officials.

Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan was fined $25,000 for verbally abusing an official after their 38-31 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

This was the third week that the NFL had used replacement referees.
