Ryan Truex running Nationwide race after apendectomy

It’s one of six NASCAR Nationwide races that Ryan Truex is scheduled to run for Joe Gibbs Racing thus not even an appendectomy was going to stop him from running this weekend at Dover. While Truex says he’s 100 percent recovered from the appendicitis he knows his stock car career has not taken off as he envisioned.

The 20 year-old brother of Sprint Cup driver Martin Truex, Ryan  aspired to run the full season at the Nationwide level in 2012 after running in 17 of 34 events last season split between Gibbs and Michael Waltrip Racing.

“I really thought I did enough to earn at least more of a partial schedule,” Truex said. “I was even hoping to go into 2012 and run the full schedule, based on what we were able to do last year. I was top-five or top-10 [almost] every race [for JGR] and never wrecked out, never finished worse than [13th].

Instead of running a full schedule Truex is struggling to find ways to earn seat time. At Daytona he ran a car prepared by Tommy Baldwin and at Texas he drove for RAB.
