Despite being the only driver to fail to qualify for the race at Phoenix Timmy Hill and Rick Ware Racing are still planning on running for rookie of the year honors at the Sprint Cup level. Last season Hill won rookie honors in the Nationwide Series while driving for Ware.
“I feel ready,” the 19-year-old Hill said. “What encouraged us is we had a super strong finish at the beginning of the year with seventh in Nationwide at Daytona.
Hill is joined by Josh Wise in competing for the honors. Wise made the race at Phoenix and ran 110 laps before retiring with a vibration. Driving for Front Row Motorsports it’s unclear how many races Wise will run since competing in full events will be dependent on sponsorship.
