Knaus, Johnson busted at Daytona for modifications

Parts have been confiscated from the #48 car of 5 time Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson. According to John Darby, the Sprint Cup Series director, the C-posts were confiscated after an initial inspection and the changes to the car template are a major rule violation.

This would not be the first time questions have been raised about the #48 car and crew chief Chad Knaus has been suspended in the past for such instances.

Right now it’s unclear if any suspensions will take place and since the parts were noticed so early in speed weeks, the team has been allowed to simply replace them. NASCAR spokesperson Kerry Tharp said sanctions are unlikely until after the February 26 race.

Johnson had his five season run as series champion end this past year. Questions were also raised about the relationship of Knaus and Johnson but both have said they are looking forward to the 2012 season.
