Kurt Busch to talk with Phoenix Racing

The 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Kurt Busch will talk to Phoenix Racing about driving the #51 Chevrolet during the 2012 season. According to reports from ESPN that seat had been promised to David Ragan if the driver was unable to land a better job.

Ragan met with officials from Penske Racing about taking over the seat for the #22 Shell/Pennzoil Dodge.

The six year relationship of Busch and Penske ended following an outburst at Homestead. During Busch’s tenure at Penske he struggled to control his temper and had a revolving door of crew chiefs. Busch won 16 races in Dodges provided by Penske, including two this season.

Finch said that while Busch was not at the top of his list of names to drive his car that he will talk to the driver but offered cautious words.

“Kurt, his talent is pretty good,” Finch said. “He’s one of the best there is, but I’m not going to listen to that s— and pay him money.

Last season Landon Cassill drove the #51 car for Finch. Brad Keselowski won at Talladega in 2009 driving for Finch. Right now it is unclear if there is sponsorship for the #51 car.
