Prior to attempt comeback

Rangers v CubsIt wouldn’t be an MLB off season if there wasn’t news that Mark Prior was hoping to pitch this coming season, and the free agent pitcher was planning to throw in front of teams at some point.

That Mark Prior still wants to pitch isn’t surprising. He was pretty good while a member of the Chicago Cubs, but health issues have wrecked his once promising career.

He last pitched in the majors in 2006 going 1-6 with a 7.21 ERA while finishing the season on the DL with tendinitis.

Over the last two years Prior has signed one year deals with the San Diego Padres. While in the Padres organization he never threw a pitch at any level and collected over $1 million to rehab a shoulder tear he suffered in May of 2008.
It’s unclear who will be interested in Prior but it’s safe to assume someone will toss a minor league offer his way in hopes of catching lighting in a bottle. He could even appear in spring training action but don’t expect to see him pitching in actual big league games until June or so.
Over a five year career, Prior is 42-29 with a 3.51 ERA in 106 career games; all of which have been starts.
